A Romantic Engagement Session at the Historic Scottish Rite in Hamilton


Hamilton has so many hidden gems, and when Alec & Beth picked the Historic Scottish Rite for their engagement session, I knew it was going to be something special. This place is packed with character—stunning architecture, rich history, and a moody, romantic vibe that made for the perfect backdrop to capture their love.


From the moment we stepped inside, I was in awe of the details—grand staircases, intricate woodwork, and dramatic archways. The Scottish Rite is a dream for photographers, with so many cozy little spots bathed in soft, golden light. Alec & Beth totally leaned into the atmosphere, and their connection came through in every shot. Between the glow from the stained glass windows and the candlelit feel of the halls, the whole session felt like stepping into a timeless love story.


As we wandered, we found all these tucked-away corners where the light hit just right—perfect for capturing stolen kisses and quiet moments. Every shot felt cinematic, like they were starring in their own romantic movie.


To wrap up the session, we made our way over to Dundurn Castle, another Hamilton icon. The contrast was incredible—where the Scottish Rite was all moody elegance, Dundurn Castle was grand and open, with sweeping stone steps and gorgeous views of the bay. Alec & Beth soaked it all in, embracing the moment and the meaning behind this new chapter in their lives.


Even though I’m now based in Peterborough, I still make the trip to Hamilton every so often for sessions like this. There’s just something about the city’s history and charm that always draws me back, and I love getting to capture love stories in such beautiful spots.


This engagement session was one for the books—so full of warmth, connection, and stunning scenery. I can’t wait for their wedding day and to see where their love story takes them next!
